Childhood Autism and Dogs

June 9, 2014

Childhood Autism and Service Dogs

Children with autism are often non verbal and have a hard time communicating and connecting with the environment around them.

Some other personality traits are the ability to wander, a non- understanding of dangerous surroundings and easily experiencing a sensory overload (usually not responding well to human touch).

Enter Fido.

Autism assistance dogs offer families relief, and the autistic child a unique social connection.
These service dogs provide emotional support and safety, giving the child a focal point when they are overwhelmed with stimuli and a watchful eye for the child’s safety.
